|Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK)|
On September 26, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Ri Yong Ho of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Wang Yi once again congratulated the intensified high-level exchanges held on the 70th anniversary of the DPRK National Day. Wang Yi expressed that constantly consolidating and developing the traditional friendship between China and the DPRK in the new era is an important consensus reached by General Secretary Xi Jinping and Chairman Kim Jong Un. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the DPRK side, well implement the consensus of the top leaders of the two countries and steadily advance exchanges in various fields so that bilateral relations can maintain a good development momentum. The diplomatic departments of the two countries shoulder important responsibilities to this end. Both sides should carry out exchanges in various fields and at all levels, and strengthen strategic communication and cooperation.
Wang Yi pointed out that the Chinese side highly appreciates the Pyongyang meeting between the leaders of the DPRK and the Republic of Korea (ROK) on the Korean Peninsula as well as the issuance of a joint declaration. We immediately expressed our clear support for it. The Chinese side fully recognizes a series of measures the DPRK side has taken to achieve the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, supports the DPRK side in continuing to stick to the stance of the denuclearization, adheres to peaceful dialogue, and supports the DPRK and the United States as well as the DPRK and the ROK in making efforts to improve relations, in a bid to promote the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the political settlement process of the Korean Peninsula issue.
Ri Yong Ho noted that DPRK-China traditional friendly relations have been consolidated and carried forward in the new era. The Chinese side attaches great importance to celebration activities marking the 70th anniversary of the founding of the DPRK, which fully demonstrates the close relations between the DPRK and China. The Workers' Party of Korea and the DPRK government attach great importance to DPRK-China relations and stand ready to strengthen high-level exchanges, deepen strategic communication and promote better development of DPRK-China relations in accordance with the important consensus reached by Chairman Kim Jong Un and General Secretary Xi Jinping. The DPRK side agrees that the diplomatic departments of the two countries should intensify communication and coordination and make joint efforts to implement the important consensus of the leaders of the two countries. Speaking highly of the Chinese side's support for the positive measures the DPRK side has taken to promote the easing of the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the DPRK side is willing to, together with the Chinese side, continue making efforts to achieve the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula as well as peace and security in Northeast Asia.
Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
