2018-12-11

On December 11, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended and addressed the Symposium on International Developments and China's Diplomacy in 2018. The symposium was co-hosted by China Institute of International Studies and China Foundation for International Studies in Beijing.

Wang Yi expressed that the most significant feature of the international situation in 2018 is that it is fraught with uncertainties. The world is undergoing profound changes unseen in a century. Under the strong leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) with Comrade Xi Jinping at the core, and guided by Xi Jinping's thought on diplomacy, China's diplomacy has comprehensively implemented the spirit and strategic deployments of the 19th CPC National Congress, stayed focused, responded confidently, taken proactive planning and made active efforts, showing new outlooks, contributing new solutions and scoring new accomplishments. If we can sum it up in a few key words, they are openness, cooperation, steady progress, guidance, responsibility and perseverance.

Wang Yi pointed out that the year of 2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. We will work closely around the central tasks of the Party and the country, continue to hold high the banner of building a community with a shared future for mankind, and give all-out efforts to well host the 2nd Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. We will comprehensively push forward the friendly cooperation with all countries, actively safeguard stability and tranquility of the region and the world, get deeply involved in and take a leading role in global governance, as well as be more proactive in domestic reform and development, so as to break new ground for major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics in the new era.
