Wang Yi Meets with Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong of Cambodia


On December 16, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Deputy Prime Minister Hor Namhong of Cambodia in Luang Prabang Province of Laos, who was attending the fourth Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting.

Wang Yi expressed that for the 60 years since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries, China and Cambodia have always understood, trusted and supported each other. The relationship between the two countries has been brimming with new vitality as time goes by and has maintained strong vitality. Standing at a new historical starting point, the Chinese side is willing to work with the Cambodian side to cement strategic coordination and cooperation, enrich the connotation of the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and build a community with a shared future of strategic significance between China and Cambodia.

Wang Yi pointed out that the Chinese side firmly supports Cambodia's just cause of safeguarding national independence, sovereignty and national dignity, and firmly supports Cambodia's pursuit of a development path conforming to its national conditions. We are willing to, together with the Cambodian side, well prepare for the high-level exchanges for the next stage between the two countries, deepen cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and enhance production capacity investment and industrial park constructions to help Cambodia improve self-development capacity, speed up the implementation of people's livelihood projects to benefit more people, and enhance bilateral youth communication and pass on China-Cambodia friendship from generation to generation to consolidate the public opinion foundation for the friendship between the two countries. Cambodia is an important participant of the LMC, and we look forward to working with the Cambodian side to promote the LMC, so as to realize the common development.

Hor Namhong expressed that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Cambodia-China diplomatic relationship and the bilateral relations have made substantial progress, with frequent high-level mutual visits and fruitful achievements from practical cooperation. Hor Namhong thanked the Chinese side for its large amount of selfless support and assistance to the Cambodian side. Prime Minister Hun Sen is willing to attend the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in China to further promote bilateral economic and trade cooperation, expand investment and increase personnel exchanges. The Cambodian side actively supports the LMC, and is willing to intensify communication and coordination with the Chinese side to push forward the mechanism for constant and positive results.
