|Wang Yi Talks About Multiple "Firsts" Achieved by the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC)|
On December 17, 2018 local time, after attending the 4th Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Luang Prabang Province, Laos, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi told Chinese and foreign journalists that the LMC has made positive progress over the past year with remarkable results, benefiting the six countries and making the mutual relations better and closer.
Wang Yi stressed that, over the past year, the LMC has achieved a number of "firsts" such as the first Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Week, the first training for LMC National Secretariats and Coordination Units of the six countries, the first batch of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund Projects, the first Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Forum, Production Capacity Cooperation Forum, and Think Tank Forum of the Global Center for Mekong Studies. We have enriched the connotation of cooperation. The six countries have carried out nearly 30 large-scale projects on railways, highways, hydropower stations, construction of economic development zones and so on, bringing the concept of Lancang-Mekong production capacity cooperation into reality. The LMC has been expanded from five priority areas to others of education, media, health care, and youth exchanges, forming a sound situation in which governments, businesses, and academia are making joint efforts to produce fruitful results on all fronts. We have improved the sense of fulfillment of the people. The six countries have carried out a large number of livelihood projects such as Brightness Action, Lancang-Mekong Youth Leaders Cultural Experience Camp and Open-air Cinema, which have brought tangible benefits to the people. The awareness of the LMC among the people of the six countries has been continuously enhanced with understanding and trust increasingly deepened.
