|Wang Yi Meets with Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeo Mori of Japan|
On February 2, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Senior Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeo Mori of Japan, who was in China for China-Japan Security Dialogue and the regular consultation between the Chinese and Japanese Foreign Ministries.
Wang Yi expressed that last year, President Xi Jinping met with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe for several times, charting the course for the improvement and development of China-Japan relations. The mutual visits between Chinese Premier and Japanese Prime Minister have brought China-Japan relations back to the right track. The cooperation between the two countries in various fields has also shown a new outlook. This situation does not come easily. Therefore, both sides should strive to avoid new twists and turns. To this end, the two sides should abide by the four political documents between China and Japan, and earnestly safeguard the political foundation of bilateral relations. Meanwhile, the two sides should keep pace with the times, constantly inject positive energy into bilateral relations, and implement the consensus of regarding each other as cooperative partners rather than threats reached between China and Japan.
Wang Yi pointed out that the year 2019 is an important year for both China and Japan. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the Japanese side, enhance mutual trust, reduce doubts, and avoid misjudgment, in a bid to promote sound, smooth and forward-looking development of China-Japan relations along the right track. China and Japan are close neighbors and important economies. Against the current international situation that is full of uncertainties, ensuring stable development of bilateral relations is also conducive to coordination and cooperation between China and Japan in international and regional affairs.
Takeo Mori noted that he is glad that Japan-China relations have returned to the right track and achieved positive progress. The Security Dialogue with the Chinese side and the regular consultation between the two Foreign Ministries during this visit were constructive and also achieved positive outcomes. The Japanese side cherishes the current improvement and development momentum of Japan-China relations and stands ready to work with the Chinese side to well implement the consensus of the leaders of the two countries, strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, enhance people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and make efforts for the further development of bilateral relations. The Japanese side is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the Chinese side and jointly contribute to maintaining regional peace and stability.
