Wu Bangguo Meets with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra


On April 18, 2012, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) Wu Bangguo met with Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra in the Great Hall of the People.

Wu spoke highly of the development of China-Thailand relations. He noted that the building of China-Thailand all-round strategic cooperative partnership will effectively boost the bilateral pragmatic cooperation and benefit the Chinese and Thai people. China always attaches importance to developing the friendly cooperation with Thailand and views Thailand as a trustworthy friend. It is ready to make joint efforts with Thailand to push forward the bilateral ties and safeguard regional stability and development.

He said that the NPC thinks highly of the friendly relations with the Thai parliament and expects to continue to keep the exchanges between the leaders, specialized committees and friendship groups of the two parliaments, strengthen substantive exchanges with focus on the overall development of bilateral ties, learn from each other's experience of running the state and legislative supervision, strengthen communication and coordination in such regional and international parliamentary organizations as the Inter-Parliamentary Union and Asian Parliamentary Assembly and inject new vigor into China-Thailand relations.

Yingluck said that she conducted in-depth exchanges with Chinese leaders and contacted people extensively from different sectors of the society and her visit achieved fruitful results. Thailand admires China's positive role in regional and international affairs and is firmly committed to developing the all-round strategic cooperative partnership with China. Governments, parliaments and political parties of the two countries are expected to step up friendly exchanges. The two countries should expand mutually beneficial cooperation, increase friendship between the two peoples and promote their own development.
