|Jia Qinglin Visits Wat Phra Singh in Thailand and Conducts Exchanges with Local Buddhism Community|
On April 24 local time, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Jia Qinglin who was visiting Chiang Mai, Thailand visited Wat Phra Singh accompanied by the first Vice President of the Thai Senate Nikom Wairatpanij. Jia held cordial talks about China-Thailand cultural exchanges with the abbot of Wat Phra Singh and the local Buddhism community.
Jia said that Buddhism exchanges form the important part of the friendly exchanges between China and Thailand. The magnificent Wat Phra Singh boasts a long history and many senior monks and enjoys a high reputation in China. The Thai Buddhist community has donated a large number of jade statues to China. The Buddha's finger bone relic of Shannxi Famensi Temple and the Buddha's tooth relic of Beijing Lingguangsi Temple were once sent to Thailand to be worshiped there and welcomed by the Thai people. The Chinese government encourages and supports the Buddhist communities of China and Thailand to conduct friendly exchanges and cooperation and play an active role to enhance the friendship between the two peoples.
In the evening, Jia, accompanied by Vice President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the Senate Thiradet Miphian and a former Thai senator, attended a grand farewell banquet in Chiang Mai hosted by the Thai Senate. Ten Thai senators especially came to Chiang Mai for the banquet. Addressing the event, Jia thanked the Thai side for its warm and friendly reception of the Chinese delegation and the arrangement of the farewell banquet. He said that the Thai side attached great importance to his visit. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn met with him and held banquet for him on behalf of King Bhumibol Adulyadej. During the visit, he exchanged in-depth views on China-Thailand relations and regional and international issues of common concern with the Head of the Privy Council Prem Tinsulanonda, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, President of the National Assembly and Speaker of the House of Representatives Somsak and Thiradet. The two sides reached wide consensus and achieved the desired goals. He noted that we brought with us the friendly feelings of the Chinese people for the Thai people and will bring back the friendship of the Thai people towards the Chinese people. We feel deeply that China-Thailand friendship enjoys a solid political basis and social foundation. There are broad prospects for the further development of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Thiradet spoke highly of the significance of Jia's visit and extended warm congratulations on the success of his visit. He believes that the bilateral relations will embrace a better future with the joint efforts of both sides.
Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the CPPCC National Committee Qian Yunlu and Chinese Ambassador to Thailand Guan Mu were present at the event.
